RAILWAY TUNNEL

Our client was reinstating a section of railway disused for several years. Part of this rail link was to run through an old brick tunnel that needed evaluating for structural integrity and to confirm that it met with the tight regulations imposed on railway tunnels.

Once all site safety criteria had been finalised, our 3D laser scanning crew were dispatched to site for induction and to begin surveying. The scope of works was to scan the tunnel and its portals to produce information to be used in the condition report. From the detailed scan we were able to show quite clearly the state of the walls within the tunnel. As you can see from the following image, you can clearly determine which areas of the tunnel had lost their render and where bricks had blown.

We supplied our client with a report covering all walls and the roof of the tunnel with chainage markers included for easy reference. In addition we were able to supply a reduced file of points covering the surface of the wall on a 0.5m grid for use in their modelling software as per request.
